Problem Solving is a Competitive Advantage: We are "management practitioners" of the Toyota Production System (better defined as the Toyota Management System).

We believe all management practitioners should be made aware of the following research findings... Researchers asked this question... Why do some organizations "deliver more value, in less time, at less cost" (better, faster, cheaper)...even when competitors have access to the same resources? same technologies same labor pools same capital markets same supplier base same best practices same xxxx, etc The Answer: " 4 Capabilities " Organizations that have a Faster Rate of Problem Solving, relative to rivals, outperform rivals by a significant factor...they had higher quality, lower cost, faster speed to market, more functionality, increased adaptability to change!

The faster rate of problem solving was achieved by developing & sustaining a culture that manifested the following 4 Capabilities :

1: Design & operate work to see problems (plan vs. actual)
2. Solve those problems close in person, place & time (PDCA)
3. Capture & share knowledge from solving those problems
4. Leaders organize & coach (1-3)

Researchers concluded that an organizations ability to solve problems faster than the competition may be the ONLY sustainable Competitive Advantage!!! How to increase the rate of problem solving?...Management Matters!! A few  researches  are helping to identify what is required to implement, coach and sustain a culture with an increased rate of problem solving.

They identified the "management system" as the primary "causal mechanism" to drive a faster rate of problem solving (hence, competitive advantage).

This supports Clayton Christensen's view of management: "Management is the most noble of professions if it’s practiced well. No other occupation offers as many ways to help others learn and grow, take responsibility and be recognized for achievement, and contribute to the success of a team".
